In Memory of Frederick V. Mink Jr 1938–2015

It’s with a heavy heart that the FM Brush Company announces the passing of our beloved C.E.O, Fredrick V. Mink Jr.

Frederick Mink began his career as a physicist, working as a lead scientist at NASA Goddard. After many years, Fred decided to come back to New York with his wife and kids in tow to join his father in the family brush business. Fred is 3rd generation of the Mink family to run the FM Brush Company working with his family to expand the Glendale facility and open our facility in Thailand in 1987.

As the third generation to take on the family business, Fred had a lot on his plate. With his grandfather successfully setting up a business and his father successfully keeping it going, he had a lot to live up to.

However, Fred combined his personal experience and his passion for brushes to create some of the most distinctive brushes on the market today. As a true brush-maker, Fred worked with independent artists interpreting their dreams into tools for their creative journey. Fred felt his greatest accomplishment next to his family was his longstanding friendship within the artists’ community.

Fred’s legacy continues in his family, who stand by his commitment to the arts and artists alike. He will be missed greatly by all those who he touched, but the younger generation is already taking up the mantle.

The International Makeup Trade Show is the makeup world’s biggest gathering. Thousands of makeup artists, vendors and enthusiasts discuss, display and collect the best the industry has to offer. Make-up pros from fashion and film (including Oscar, BAFTA and Saturn award winners) provide education and demonstrations at IMATS, and new products often debut there. IMATS also features a make-up museum and the Battle of the Brushes, a student competition. IMATS continues to educate and connect make-up artists from around the world. The show is held six times annually—in Los Angeles; New York. London; Vancouver, B.C.; Sydney; and Toronto.

This year’s IMATS NY is shaping up to be another wonderful event featuring:

  • Keynote speech by Millennium FX co-founder and media make-up artist Neill Gorton. In a career spanning more than two decades, Gorton, with his company Millennium FX, has designed make-up effects, prosthetics and animatronic creations for hundreds of films, TV shows and commercials, including Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator, Inkheart, The Wolfman, Doctor Who, Little Britain and Torchwood. In this time he’s won six Royal Television Society awards, three Welsh BAFTAs and a BAFTA Craft Award, along with several other nominations.
  • TV make-up artist Riccie Johnson will discuss her 65-years-and-going-strong career at IMATS New York. Johnson has worked as a make-up artist for 60 Minutes and CBS News since 1968; she started her career in 1950 at NBC and trained under Dick Smith.
  • This year marks the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live and the 20th anniversary of make-up department head Louie Zakarian’s tenure there. IMATS is thrilled to honor these milestones with a special celebration featuring Zakarian, current and former SNL artists and cast members.

FM Brush is proud to announce that our friends at Splashes of Hope will be honoring our own Frederick Mink, with their 2015 Man of the Year Award at their Annual Dinner Dance Fundraiser. Fredrick Mink is the CEO of The FM Brush Company, the world’s premiere manufacturer of artist, cosmetic, craft, hobby and industrial brushes for over 85 years. FM Brush takes great pride in partnering with many organizations and associations that give their time, talent and love to create a better social consciousness around the world. This is why we are so honored to have Fred Mink recognized with such a special honor from this amazing organization.

 

Spalshes Of Hope

Founded in 1996, Splashes of Hope is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating art to transform spaces, enrich environments and facilitate healing. Their custom-designed murals and other artistic projects bring smiles to the faces of patients, staff and visitors of medical and social service facilities worldwide. This positive impact inspires others to join their mission.

Splashes of Hope’s 2015 Young Splash Star, Ethan Chang!

ethan-chang-muralSplashes of Hope will also be honoring their 2015 Young Splash Star, Ethan Chang at their Annual Dinner Dance. Each year for their annual fundraiser, their board selects a child to honor who embodies the spirit of Splashes through joyfulness and creativity. Splashes of Hope met Ethan through the Make-A-Wish Foundation when they created murals for his bedroom in 2011. Since then, Ethan Frequently volunteers for them, helping put together our monkey puppet packets and has even ran a Lemonade Stand to raise money for Splashes. We are all looking forward to honoring Ethan and his family and celebrating the positive spirit he brings to Splashes of Hope!

This years entertainment: The Gail Storm Band!

Gail Storm is a New York based singer/songwriter/pianist who performs in NY as well as on the national and inter nation circuits. her blues styling’s embrace the root music she cherishes and provide a refreshing frame to other genres, such as classic jazz, pop, and original compositions.

Join FM Brush at Creativeworld 2015 opening on January 31st in Frankfurt, Germany.  It is the largest trade show in the world for hobby, craft and artist supplies and features the latest trends and materials.  Creativeworld 2015 is the place to network, market and see everything new in the art supply industry. At last year’s event their were 289 exhibitors representing 32 countries.
